When the child starts his journey into the Prepared Environment, Practical Life will greet the child and will help him to adapt to his new social environment.
The exercises of Practical Life help the child to adapt and will help him to gain self confidence as he learns and takes care of himself. The child learns to control his body and strengthen his mental muscles as he concenctrates on each sequenced task. He develops logical thought patterns from following the beginning, middle and end of each exercise. The child gradually acquires coordination and becomes more and more capable of independent functioning.

Practical Life includes lessons on the following: care of self, care of the environment, grace and courtesy, and control and coordination of movement. It is through this movement that the child organizes and constructs his intelligence.
Practical Life activities help the child to control his impulses and allow him to concentrate on one task at hand. These lessons also aid in the development of language and mathematics concepts.
